Royal School District is proud to announce that Red Rock Elementary Spanish teacher, Mr. Mario Godoy-Gonzalez, has been selected as the runner-up for the 2021 Toyota Family Teacher of the Year award. Each year, the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) and Toyota team up to recognize two top educators in the nation for their unrelenting family engagement efforts.

In a video released by NCFL, Toyota Chief Information Officer Holly Walters states, “This year's winner and runner-up demonstrate values in line with Toyota, including teamwork, passion, and dedication.” In describing Mr. Godoy-Gonzalez, she continues, “Among his many accomplishments, we were impressed by Mario's commitment to ensuring that families have the information they need to engage in their child's education. Mario is a true community champion and advocate for Spanish-speaking families. So much so that he's described as ‘the human bridge’ that has allowed significant improvement in the communication between school and home.

As the runner-up for this prestigious award, Mr. Godoy-Gonzalez is receiving $5,000 to be used to continue his strong family engagement efforts throughout Royal School District. Mr. Godoy-Gonzalez currently serves as a Spanish bilingual teacher for kindergarten to 3rd grade students, and he is in his fifth year at Red Rock. Prior to that, he served as an ELL/Bilingual teacher at Royal High School beginning in 1994.

"I do what I love, and I love what I do," Mr. Godoy-Gonzalez says.  “Since the first time I stepped into a classroom, almost forty years ago, I realized the importance of parental involvement in the education of their children. When parents and teachers work together, we can do more and we do better.”

Congratulations to Mr. Godoy-Gonzalez!
