Red Rock Construction Update

Make sure the read the Construction Frequently Asked Questions here!
Red Rock Elementary School is nearing the completion of the construction modernization project that began in August of 2018, and it has been a busy summer! The construction project has been a collaborative effort between Design West (the architect), Construction Services Group, MH Construction, our local city departments, and our hard-working school staff. Throughout the construction process, our district has regularly met with the project architect, construction companies, and other groups to monitor planning progress. The following is a summary of the construction progress at our school.
Construction projects of this size are typically split into phases. In February 2019, Phase 1 (west classrooms) was completed and the school was granted occupancy. Phase 2 (east classrooms) began immediately afterwards in February and is scheduled for completion by late August. When school begins on September 3rd, the plan is for Red Rock students and staff to occupy Phase 1 and Phase 2 (west and east classrooms), while construction takes place in the middle of the school building. This is a common practice by many schools while undergoing construction projects. Phase 3/final completion (office, gym, cafeteria, and several classrooms in the center of the building) is expected to be finished this fall. Because the cafeteria, gym, staff room, and several classrooms will not be finished when school starts, we need to use the portables a little longer for a few classes, and to serve breakfast and lunch (with all food cooked at the high school kitchen).
Red Rock sidewalks and paving are scheduled to begin on August 21st. While our hopes are to have paving and sidewalks completed by the start of school, landscaping will continue throughout the fall. We will keep you updated with the progress in the event that there are any changes with these plans. I think everyone would agree that our parking and pick-up/drop-off situation at Red Rock has been crazy over the last year with construction. I am looking forward to our new design that will greatly improve parking, traffic-flow and safety. Below you will find a rendering of what the parking area will look like, along with important parking expectations.
For everybody’s safety it is important to follow these rules during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times:
- No parking/unattended vehicles in pick-up drop-off area.
- No stopping to pick-up or drop-off in the traffic lane. Students will not be released to cross through traffic.
- If you need to come in the school please use a parking space.
It is critical that everyone follows the parking/traffic rules, as we are going to be very strict about enforcing these rules during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Cars must not be left unattended in the loading zones, traffic must be moving in the traffic lane, and students will not be allowed to cross traffic except on crosswalks. The good news is we will have more room, better flow, and plenty of parking!
While there have been many ups and downs with this project, the Red Rock staff is committed to the safety and learning of our students. After more than two years in the making, this is the final stretch. We know all of this has been tough, but the final product will be worth it – a beautiful school that will reflect our District Motto, A Tradition of Pride and Excellence. Thank you to our amazing community for their support and flexibility!
